An innovative, forward-thinker with considerable international expertise, Gjon Nivica most recently served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Celanese Corporation, a Fortune 500 global technology and specialty materials company based in Dallas, Texas. Prior to his tenure at Celanese, he was Vice President and General Counsel, Transportation Systems, at Honeywell International, a Fortune 100 multinational conglomerate providing products and technologies for aerospace, automotive, clean energy, and safety and security solutions.
Serving for more than 20 years as a General Counsel executive, Gjon has been valued as a strategic business partner to executive management and boards of directors. He has a proven track record of leadership and developing best in class law departments committed to delivering business-oriented creative solutions to optimize legal services and drive earnings. During his storied career, Gjon’s many accomplishments include pioneering the formulation of a strategic legal plan with corresponding goals and metrics; employing a rigorous management operating system to ensure the implementation of key strategic initiatives (such as contracts and legal functional excellence); driving the design and roll out of a contracts flow-down and baseline management process for government and commercial projects that decreased customer disputes and saved millions of dollars in warranty exposure and expense; launching innovative preventive law and code of conduct programs recognized as best in class; and establishing a licensing center of excellence that increased idea generation, reduced transaction cycle time, and grew licensing profits by 40% in the first full year of implementation.
Widely respected by his colleagues, board members, and outside counsel, Gjon is the recipient of many national industry awards. His legal team at Celanese was recognized by The American Lawyer as “Best Legal Department.” Cited by Corporate Board Member (NYSE Euronext) as one of the esteemed “Top Ten General Counsels to Watch,” Gjon was honored by The Association of Corporate Counsel and D CEO magazine as a finalist for its “Outstanding General Counsel – Large Legal Department.”
Gjon graduated magna cum laude from Boston University Law School, where he was a Paul J. Liacos Distinguished Scholar. He is also a Harvard Business School (TGMP) alumnus and received a B.S. from Florida State University with majors in both Finance and Multinational Business.
