Gjon N. Nivica, Jr., who served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Celanese Corporation, the Texas-based Fortune 500 global technology and specialty materials company, has joined the advisory and coaching division of BarkerGilmore, a New York-based boutique executive search firm. The newest member of a distinguished team of Fortune 500 General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officers, Nivica adds his considerable international expertise to the strategic counsel, leadership development, and other services BarkerGilmore advisors provide to legal and compliance departments, CEOs, and boards across the country, including General Counsel recruiting and placement.

In addition to his tenure at the Celanese Corporation, Nivica served in a number of leadership positions at Honeywell International, a Fortune 100 multinational conglomerate, including as Vice President and General Counsel of Transportation Systems, Aerospace Electronics, and Aerospace Engines. Earlier in his career, he also served in private practice as a corporate attorney at Gibson Dunn.
The recipient of numerous national industry awards, Nivica’s legal team at Celanese was recognized by The American Lawyer as “Best Legal Department.” Gjon has been cited by Corporate Board Member (NYSE Euronext) as one of the esteemed “Top Ten General Counsels to Watch,” and additionally been honored by The Association of Corporate Counsel and D CEO magazine as a finalist for its “Outstanding General Counsel – Large Legal Department.”
Nivica graduated from Boston University Law School, magna cum laude, where he was a Paul J. Liacos Distinguished Scholar. He is an alumnus of Harvard Business School (TGMP) and graduated with majors in both Finance and Multinational Business from Florida State University (BS).
A resident of Dallas, Texas, Nivica has served his community as a member of the Leadership Counsel of 30 for the Dallas CASA (representing and supporting abused children), and as Vice Chair – Law for the 2016 United Way of Metropolitan Dallas Campaign, having received the Champion Award for his leadership and tireless advocacy. Currently, he is a Trustee of the St. Mark’s School of Texas.
