Audrey Rubin, nationally acclaimed as both a pioneer of the legal operations function and as a preeminent leader in the business of law, currently serves as a Senior Advisor at BarkerGilmore. Rubin has unparalleled expertise in advising law departments on operations, technology and artificial intelligence, finance, resource optimization, leadership and team engagement, and diversity, equity and inclusion. As a General Counsel, Chief Operating Officer, Vice President of Human Resources, Board Member, law firm Partner, and Professor of Law, she has advised a wide range of clients in the global technology, financial services, and hospitality industries, in prominent law and accounting firms, and in academia, empowering her with a unique understanding of today’s multi-faceted business world.
Prior to joining BarkerGilmore, she was Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Global Law and Compliance Department of Aon Corporation (NYSE: AON), a leading global financial services firm, where she oversaw all financial, talent, strategic planning, technology, process improvement, and other business matters. During her tenure, Aon’s law department earned the ACC Value Challenge Award, and received recognition from the Process Excellence Network, Thomson Reuters, the Chicago Bar Foundation, the National Immigrant Justice Center, and the Legal Aid Society.
Rubin has served in high-level legal and business leadership roles at three other global companies. She was Acting General Counsel at Orbitz Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE:OWW), Chief Legal Officer and Acting Chief Human Resources Officer for Grant Thornton, one of the world’s largest networks of independent and consulting member firms, and Vice President & General Counsel, Chief Human Resources Officer, and Corporate Secretary of Apollo Travel Services, an affiliate of United Airlines (NASDAQ:UAL). She also held the position of Chief Operating Officer at the law firms of Wildman, Harrold, Allen & Dixon LLP and Butler, Rubin, Saltarelli & Boyd LLP. In addition, Rubin has served as Adjunct Professor at the University of Illinois College of Law for the past decade where she teaches The Changing Business of Law, and is a former Adjunct Professor at IIT Chicago Kent College of Law and Special Lecturer at Northwestern University School of Law. She is also a Faculty of the Legal Lean Sigma® Institute.
A recipient of numerous honors, including the ACC Value Champion Award, the “Early Adopter” award from Illinois Legal Aid Online, and the prestigious “Women of Achievement Award” from the Anti-Defamation League, Rubin was the focus of a cover story in Inside Counsel: “Comrades in Ops,” and featured in Crain’s Chicago Business: “How Lawyers are like Office Supplies.”
Rubin currently sits on the boards of Metropolitan Family Services and the Chicago Bar Foundation/Illinois Bar Foundation Task Force on the Sustainable Practice of Law and Innovation. She is a former Director of the Yale Alumni Association and the Chicago Bar Association. Rubin has served as Corporate Secretary and board member of several international boards of directors. She served as an Appointee to the ABA Presidential Task Force on Women in the Profession and was the Founder and Chair of the Illinois Task Force on Gender Bias in the Courts.
Rubin received her J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law and her B.A., cum laude, from Yale University. She is a Certified Mediator and holds an Executive Finance Certification from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
