While this lawyer’s work will involve many facets of Environmental law, we are searching for a lawyer who can provide counsel to various business units on Title V Permitting and Enforcement.

The lawyer in this position will provide timely, accurate and expert legal counsel on environment, health and safety to business group leaders, general counsel and other business groups and specialist counsel and proactively cultivate and maintain client network throughout corporate staff groups and within the legal function. Additional responsibilities include:

 

·         Contribute to achieving both corporate and business strategic goals as proactive member of the legal department and as functional partner with other business and specialist counsel. 

·         Defend the company against government enforcement actions, and manage complex environmental, health and safety litigation. 

·         Provide or perform research on environmental, health and safety matters that may have an impact on corporation or business group operating and financial performance. 

·         Furnish timely input on EHS legal matters to the EHS department, Corporate General Counsel, business general counsel and other business group and specialist counsel and collaborate with general counsel and specialist counsel in resolving disputes and litigation. 

·         Provide training on a proactive basis to business personnel, business counsel, and corporate staff. 

·         Create and maintain a work environment that encourages and supports open, cross-functional communication, innovative approaches to environmental, health and safety law matters and collaborative approaches to environmental, health and safety law matters and collaborative approaches to environmental, health and safety law matters and collaborative problem solving. 

·         Select and retain competent, cost-effective outside counsel, and frame their performance goals, guide their work efforts and monitor their performance.

·         Contribute to achieving the corporate goal of expanding company environment, safety, health policies to international operations, and exercising more effective oversight of EHS performance of international business. 

 

Qualifications Required/Desired:

 

A minimum of 5 years substantial experience practicing EHS law as in-house counsel or in private practice is required.  Extensive experience with Clean Air Act Issues (i.e. Title V Permitting and Enforcement) is required.  Experience/education in climate change related science is a plus.
