 A growing renewable power division of one of the largest and most profitable energy companies in the United States has engaged BarkerGilmore in an exclusive search to identify a high performing lawyer with a strong transactional background in the electric power industryThe position will be located in Southern CA and the lawyer will be responsible for all legal matters for a booming carbon-free energy business which includes wind, solar and biomass fuels. This is a highly visible, newly formed opportunity on one of the premier energy legal teams in the U.S.  While the lawyer will have the support of a large, collegial legal team, he/she will be the first lawyer who will be dedicated exclusively to the renewable business.  If you have been considering a career in renewable power and interested in the security and growth potential from working for one of the country’s leading energy producers, then this is the opportunity for you. 

We are looking for a lawyer who has an impeccable background and can call their own shots.  Stellar academics and experience in electric power are a must.  Ideally, the lawyer we are looking for will have five or more years of experience. 

The lawyer in this unique opportunity will be involved with diverse transactional matters which could include power purchase agreements, EPC agreements, property leasing/purchase agreements, site access agreements, environmental agreements, fuel supply, operation and maintenance, interconnection agreements, etc.  Will also provide counsel on environmental matters, re-powering or development, project finance, tax and litigation matters associated with the renewable business unit. 

Qualifications: 

  • JD and strong academic record from a leading law school
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience at a major law firm or with a sophisticated in-house legal department.  In-house experience desired, but not mandatory.
  • Licensed to practice law in California or another state
  • Project finance, real estate, and environmental expertise highly valued
  • Substantial experience advising clients in the electric power space is required.  Renewable experience is preferred.
  • Ability to supervise outside counsel when necessary and the ability to prioritize work given to outside counsel.
  • Ability to take lead on all legal matters.
  • Excellent communication skills including ability to work independently; ability to negotiate; ability to provide a high level of client service and build consensus across a matrixed client organization.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic.
